My comments are for my spouse that has served over 17 years. He recently put in a Gunner package along with 21 others. Out of the 21 11 were picked.As to my surprise these 11 picked were all junior to my husband of 17 years. He has a very good standing with the military.No reason he should not have been picked for gunner.It is funny that this year is the first year that the changed the years of service to be a Gunner an all that were picked are junior marines. None of the older guys had a chance. Their is noway that these younger men have the training that the older men have that were eligable for the package. these men in are military are not trained the tough way it use to be..They dont have the tough attitude the older guys have.Thats my opinion and plenty of others!its a shame that these guys give their life to the military an after they have so many years in they have no chance at a promotion. To me its because a younger guy is cheaper labor!I feel That is the reason they are doing this.In the end where does it get the United States.It takes years of training to learn the military tactics.And that what are older service members have. As for me Im happy that my husband wasnt promoted.Hes away from me enough.I just know what he feels.And the pride he has for the military.And they do this to him,Its just not right.I also give dedication being the spouse of a damn good marine.

My brother in law served in the Beaufort as a navigator during the war. He told me he owes his survival due to the fact that bad weather prevented them from taking off and attacking the Scharnhorst and Gneisnau on their channel dash. Had they have done so he felt they would have been shot down.

One of their squadrons planes did in fact sink one of Rommels oil tankers which of course helped us win the battle of El Alemein.

There were plans to send Beauforts to attack the Tirpitz. It would have been a one way mission as the planes would not have had sufficient fuel to return home.
